John McCain’s campaign suggests that the grit, determination and sacrifice the candidate demonstrated as a POW in Vietnam prove he has what it takes to be President of the United States.
To be sure, the pain, agony and anguish he must have faced daily in the Hanoi Hilton are beyond my imagination. I admire Senator McCain greatly for his courage, devotion to duty and service to the country. But these qualities alone don’t qualify someone to be Commander-in-Chief.
What does McCain offer? A former Navy fighter pilot, he’s positioned himself as a straight-talkin’ Arizona maverick who will do the unexpected. But is his claim of independence really true or just another tall tale?
McCain’s plan for Iraq is to do exactly what George Bush has been doing for five years. His plan for the temporary Bush tax cuts is… to make them permanent. His plan for healthcare, the budget deficit, the economy, Social Security, the housing crisis? You guessed it—do what the Non-Decider is doing or, worse, do nothing.
With Bush now scoring the highest disapproval ratings in Gallup poll history, the last thing you’d expect McCain to do is double down on failure. But, true to his word, McCain is all about doing the unexpected.
Which means that if Johnny Mac wins the Top Gun trophy in November, we’ll all be getting “the bird” come January.
Ahhh the media sponsored Bachenalian feast for Obama continues in the blogosphere, which isn’t to disagree with your article, but c’mon? What do the other candidates offer? Oops I forgot O-BS-ama will brng us HOPE and Billary some entertaining pardons. A better article would fairly critique all 3 candidates.
McCain: Maverick… or Goose?…
MoveOn.org and the CIO are kicking off two antiJohn McCain ad campaigns….
